Loughcrew, Newgrange, King Johns Castle, and Ardgillan

So we went on a little trip last week Tuesday that I forgot to talk about or we didn't have the internet something like that I'm not quite sure...
We were woken up by an obnoxious banging on our cabin door by some of the people who had helped set up the trip with Steve the maintenance guy here,
and were not happy about that let me tell you, but w
e got up and were all ready to go by 7a the scheduled time that the bus was supposed to meet us in front of Bective court
right? yea well while everyone who didn't set up this trip with Steve was standing out front waiting for the bus, the people who had come and banged on everyone elses doors like there was a fire in the place had went back to their cabin and i dont know fallen back asleep??? because they didn't make it out into the nice rainy 50degree weather until fifteen min later, then two of the boys we found out were still taking showers so we had to wait another fifteen for them. So our morning started off really great.

Then we drove to Loughcrew, which turns out is on a big ass
mountain. So we hiked up the giant mountain which let me tell you took me a lot of time and about all the energy I had saved up for the day, and then at the top it was crazy windy and it started to rain. Now don't get me wrong it was beautiful there and really cool to see, but you do not get a fat girl up at 7 in the morning and then tell her to go hike up the side of a hill that is just something that ruins the rest of the day for her. Maybe they dont know that here because everyone is a size nothing, but I was about dead.
And everyone else kept fallin
g, which was kinda funny to me, but Tanisha was getting so pissed off, she fell I think like 5 times going up and down. And finally she just stormed down the rest of the hill and started rambling about not wanting to be here anymore, and why did we have to treck up the hill in the rain. Like I said funny to me, but she was getting way pissed off, and started calling Rachel small hill for the rest of the day because she told us th
at Loughcrew was just up at the top of a small
hill, not much of a climb. Yea ri
ght.

Well after Loughcrew we went to Newgrange which was kinda cool once you got there,
I mean the history behind it and the whole light shining in on Solst
ice is really amazing. We couldn't take pictur
es from inside, but from the outside it was pretty cool looking in my opinion. Everything that we did though was like 10 miles away from whatever we wanted to see, so me being the really smart person that I am decided to wear my converse shoes, yea well they were soaked in the first 10 min at Loughcrew, and by the time we made it to Newgrange my feet were little icicles. So we splashed through the water and puddles to get to a bus area, then we got on the bus and went to go see Newgrange. It was like I said pretty cool to hear about, but its kinda sucky that they dont know a lit
tle bit more about why its there or what it was used for you know. But when we got out it was raining and we walked around the o
utside of it which was neat because there were stones with carvings on them and
stuff,
but I was so cold and didnt have an umbrella so I was just getting wet and had to run to the bus that took us back to the station where we had to walk through more rain to get to the building where we could buy souveneirs and stuff, then we got to walk through more rain to get to our bus that we arrived in. It was great fun.

Then we did the whole castle ruins thing at King Johns Castle...looks amazing from the outside doesn't it...
yea i thought so too, and then I figure
d out O gees there is only an outside, you cant look at the inside at all its all locked off, why i dont know its not like you can ruin it, they are castle ruins...but whatever they were pretty and nice to look at but there is only so much that you can look at before it all looks the same you know...And that is really all that I have to say about King Johns Castle because really, there wasn't much to look at...and I was freezing my ass off because we were right next to the water and it was starting to rain again, so the wind was whipping the rain into my face, it was
awesome!!!

So the last place we went to was Ardgillan, It was more pretty from the outside than the inside,
because nothing on the inside was actually suppose to be in the building it was all modeled to look after the era, or they may have had something that could have looked like that at one point in time. Very sketch stuff was going on with that tour, plus we got there when they were about to close, yet somehow we got the most talkative man they had in the building. We weren't supposed to take video or photography while we were in the castle, but me being me took a video of almost the whole tour, just for the sake of doing it, it was great fun!!! But yea that was our trip for the whole day, after we left the last castle we came back to the cabins and just chilled, got out of our wet, cold clothes, came up for dinner, and then hung back at the cabins.

So we were going to have a movie night last night, but everyone was like, “oh lets dress up and go into town it will be so much fun.” Yea right it wasn’t the bars were all full of people like right up in your space, and the streets had drunks hanging around everywhere. It was one of the craziest things that I have ever seen in my entire life. Plus, when we were in Matthew’s plastered to one another, people were pushing trying to get in and out and it was just way too much for me, so I was done with it. We decided to leave when we couldn’t even get through the second set of doors inside, and when we turned around we just had to push our way out, literally shove everyone out of the way. Instead of dealing with that and the hundreds of drunk irish people we came back to the hotel and just hung out and talked, a small group of the rest of them came back about an hour or so after we did, and Katie came to our cabin and we all just sat up talking until like 2a. It seems that we have a lot more fun when we just hang out here than we do when we go out drinking at the pub.

Today we start our jobs for next week because it is a bank holiday and there are more people at the hotel, so I am going to be front desk with Kristi tonight. We are finally starting to have some good food for lunches too, yesterday it was the chicken fingers and chips, today it was grilled cheeses, the simpler they go the more we seem to like it, so I am glad they are finally starting to get it. We do still need to go to the store though because dinners are still pretty awful in my opinion. I mean last night for dinner I ate 3 slices of beef, that’s it. I am a big girl and I need more than that maybe all the toothpicks who we are here with can stand that, but me I need a hearty meal to get me through the night. Anyways I woke up this morning and was going to take a shower right away but it took a while for me to fully wake up, plus I didn’t want to wake up my roommates, because apparently waking up at 8 is the earliest time in the world…I mean really we wake up for 7a labs at home…sometimes I just don’t get them. We really need to clean our room though because it is so messy and people keep coming over and help us mess it up, but then we take a few days to clean it up, and I keep finding spiders around and I am not liking that business at all.

Week 3

So we haven't had the internet for over a week, and today it is finally back on in the break area of the hotel that we are staying in...i have been trying to journal about the shit that has been going on recently because seriously people are shady here...i can't wait till we go to Dublin to get away from some of these people and all of the drama going on at the moment...anyways that is for another post right now i am going to put a post up for while the internet was down...

10/25/09

Okay so right now I am sitting in the break room waiting to be called on so that I can do something in housekeeping, but nobody checks out until 12:00 so me, along with Tanisha, Lauren, and Lakiya, are waiting for something to do… I figure that I can do this if there is nothing else to do…but I guess we are going so I am going to get gone…now the day is almost over and we cleaned so many darn rooms today that I fell asleep as soon as I got back to our cabin, but people kept interrupting me and I was starting to get really annoyed. First Devon came over and sat for like two seconds, called me and Tanisha boring then left. Then we got a call from Kristi asking if we were doing anything tonight, and then Devon and Dominic came over and got us up for our puney beyond belief dinner. I was so hungry after dinner it wasn’t even funny. But working today did have some high points. In one room some of the sheets were ripped and we don’t know why…we started making fun of Lauren for doing the nasty with Rolandas in their and it was so funny. Then in another room we found a giant box of KY jelly and the room was a mess when I first started cleaning it so we knew what was going on in their… Yea so…after dinner we went and saw the fireworks out by the lake, they were so pretty, I haven’t seen good fireworks in a long time, the fireworks I saw for the fourth in Baltimore sucked big time, so I was pretty excited about it. Some people were acting like asses, leaving Erin behind then blaming it on us, then walking like joggers and then acting like it was normal pace and we were just going too slow or whatever. It was stupid shit that I think we have become accustomed to here in good ole Ireland. But like I said the fireworks were really great, it was cold, but I didn’t mind once the fireworks started.

Day 5

Okay so yesterday was my first day of work and guess what...it was as predicted uneventful and boring. I had to get there at 4pm and then we sat there doing nothing until 8pm because that is when the first party came in. Then when we started serving i was totally out of my element because I have never done this before...I felt like I was interupting everyone whenever i walked up to the table, and I think I was talking to softly at times and to loudly at others...I swear these people were giving me the weirdest looks. And i would totally understand it.
We also had to type the orders into the computer which has a touch screen which isnt sensitive to touch at all...i mean you have to pound on the screen for it to register, what kind of touch screen is that??? I dont know...but they called orders something different than they actually were too, I walked into the dinning room and was like, "Who got the cornicopia?" and they were like nobody...because thats not on the menu and nobody freaking told me that on the menu it is actually called Atlantic Seafood something or other...no why would we do that for the girl who has never served in her entire life and is a little intimidated by the whole formal serve from the right hand side stuff we got going on here in Ireland...no lets just let her wing it that sounds better...
The people are nice though, P did most of the work, but when we just talked to her she was real nice and funny too...there was also K up at the registration desk and she is our age, so funny, might go to Dublin with her, would be so fun...she was telling us stories about the other groups that came up here...which ones she liked, didn't stuff like that and where she grew up...we did this for like 2 hours because there was nothing else to do...
So we are going to see what happens tonight...i think that we have a party of 6 or something coming in tonight so that might give us something to do for like 1 1/2 of the 8 hours we are up at the hotel...maybe the american bar guys will show up tonight as well...lets hope...

Day 4

Today I have to work in the hotel as a waitress, dont really know how well this is going to work out though considering i am both clumsey and forgetful...at least we get to keep tips if we make any which i dont think we will make many because the past 3 days we have been here i havent seen one guest and they keep all the doors to the hotel locked so how are you suppose to get in anyways...idk..but this will be eventful i guess to see how long i can manage to not fall over tonight...
At least i dont have to any maintenance or gardening while i am here i was rather happy about that one, haha...
Yup well i think i am going to go eat breakfast now...goodbye

Introduction

Okay so I am doing this for my school project...
We are in Ireland for school and it isn't everything that we expected it to be trust that...the food sucks and is in tiny portions, and everything costs about twice as much as it does back home because the american dollar sucks compared to the euro...This is only day 4 and i have already spent like 200 dollars not cool...
We did get a couple of days off to start with which was nice of these people here, but there really isnt anything to do in this tiny town so mostly we stay at the cabins here and complain about wanting to go back home...
Cavan was pretty cool, we went there yesterday, but there wasnt anything there that I couldnt buy in the US. The town was fun to look at and walk through though so we did that, I took pictures and my mom will love seeing those. I just hope that the rest of the trip is more eventful and less expensive than it has been the first 3 days that we have been here so far. I guess we will see...
